Under 16 Blue 5/108 def Epping 4/104
For the third time this season playing Epping the match was won in the final over and for the second final in a row it was the final ball. In what was an outstanding game of cricket there were jubilant scenes when the ice cool Nick Brennan successfully delivered a final ball yorker with Epping needing a four to tie the game. Congratulations to coach Joel Atkinson and all the boys on an outstanding season and to the 11 boys who move onto senior cricket next year.
Batting first it was Nick Brennan (41no) coming in at a shaky 2/18 who batted superbly providing the backbone of the innings and was greatly supported by Miles Coates (21), Tom Robinson (18) and Jack Atkinson (10) to ensure we made a very competitive total. With the ball against a star studded batting line up who got off to a flyer it was the fielding which led the way with 2 brilliant run outs from Will Hewett and Jack Atkinson which brought about the first 2 wickets before both Will (1/25) and Jack (1/15) picked up wickets leading up to the tense final overs being played out.
POM – Nick Brennan 41no
Under 16 White 4/124 def Plenty 55
After being outplayed by Plenty in the first semi final it was great to see the boys successfully bounce back to play almost the perfect game of cricket in what ended being a very comprehensive team win. Congratulations to coach Paul Bohan and all the team on extremely successful season losing only 1 game.
Batting first it was openers Rohan McRae (27ret) and Harley Jackson (17) who set the innings up beautifully putting on a 39 run partnership before skipper Dylan Johnson (36) played an outstanding innings to finish off a very good 20 over batting performance. The bowling group was outstanding and whilst not taking many early wickets maintained the pressure on the Plenty batting line up with Liam Hannam (3/7), Harley Jackson (3/8), Dylan Johnson (2/7) and Rohan McRae (1/12) reaping the rewards with great bowling.
POM – Dylan Johnson 36 & 2/7
Under 12 White 5/53 def by Banyule 3/58
In what was always going to be a massive task against the undefeated Banyule, our team unfortunately were no match against the much stronger opposition. Our boys have had a great season and to have been able to win 2 finals is a great thrill and a credit to coach Marty Anderson and all the players.
It was a battle batting first against a very good attack and whilst not losing a lot of wickets we could not manage to score at a quick enough rate with Alfie Rowley (10no), Zac Wellington (8no) and Jobe Signorini (5) being our leading run scorers. With the ball we fought hard picking up 3 wickets before they passed us with plenty of overs to spare with Zac Wellington (2/14) and Marcus Rabak (1/6) picking up our wickets.
POM – Zac Wellington 8no & 2/14
